David P. Goldman is an American author, strategist and long-standing columnist. Writing under the pseudonym ‘Spengler’, he contributed to the Asia Times from 2000 to 2025, where he shaped the debate on geopolitics, demography and religion. In May 2025, he joined the planning staff of the US Department of State. Prior to this, Goldman held senior positions in the financial sector, including at Bank of America, Credit Suisse and Cantor Fitzgerald, and worked as an investment banker in Hong Kong. He was a member of Institutional Investor’s “All-America Fixed Income” team.
Alongside his professional work, Goldman was also active in various think tanks: as a Washington Fellow at the Claremont Institute, as a Research Fellow at the Corvinus Institute for Advanced Studies, and as a Pulliam Fellow at Hillsdale College. He also served as Senior Editor at First Things and as Contributing Editor at American Affairs.
He completed his academic education at Columbia College (BA) and the City University of New York (MA); he undertook doctoral studies at the London School of Economics.
Goldman is also a classical musician and was a music critic for Tablet Magazine.
He speaks regularly at conservative conferences and institutions, including the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and events organised by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and Hillsdale College.
His major publications include "How Civilizations Die" (2011), "It’s Not the End of the World – It’s Just the End of You" (2012) and "You Will Be Assimilated: China's Plan to Sino-Form the World" (2020).

On ​16.6.2026, the Oswald Spengler Society organised a masterclass with David P. Goldman in the German Eifel, discussing geopolitics, philosophy and history, and benefitting from the awardee's unique insights.
